The Bout

At Boxing Bear Brewing Company, we truly believe in the word ‘quality.’ Quality time, quality friends, and of course, quality BEER. Our vision started with 3 friends driven by their passion for beer and a dedication to all things related to it. By brewing with superior ingredients and time-tested techniques, and by offering a great spot to enjoy and learn about our beer – you’ll discover what true quality means to us.

Boxing Bear Brewing Company currently has two locations across Albuquerque. Our mission is to grow the popularity of quality hand-crafted beer, and to help establish New Mexico as a national destination for outstanding craft beer. We strive for excellence through innovation, producing outstanding recipes using traditional brewing practices and top notch ingredients.

Boxing Bear Brewing Company is also producing and serving amazing locally made wines. Wine lovers can experience some wonderful local varietals as a menu option, which sets Boxing Bear apart from most traditional brew pubs.

The Team

Justin Hamilton

Justin Hamilton

Director of Brewing Operations/Owner

A home-grown New Mexican, Justin was born and raised on the west side of Albuquerque, just a few miles from Boxing Bear Brewing Co. Justin is an accomplished award-winning brewer, who honed his craft at various local breweries over the years. He became head brewer at Chama River Brewing Company in 2009. Justin has a passion for quality in beer, and he is a perfectionist when it comes to recipes, ingredients, and procedures.  He is committed to excellence in everything he does, which carries through all the way into your pint glass!

Kevin Davis

Executive Partner/Owner

Kevin discovered his passion for craft beer thanks to his friendship with Dave who was a homebrewer. They brewed many styles of beer, including a decoction mash Munich Dunkel that won high accolades. One day Kevin decided to open Southwest Grape and Grain, where his sons Chad and Dylan discovered their passion for beer and brewing. Having met Justin at a beer festival, Kevin and Dave decided to ask if he’d be interested in partnering up to open a craft brewery. He thought about it for a while, and eventually agreed. One Friday evening in Kevin’s kitchen, while enjoying some Firestone Walker Double Barrel Ale, Boxing Bear Brewing Co was born. Kevin’s duties at Boxing Bear became so time consuming that he decided to sell Southwest Grape and Grain, which still operates today.

David Kim

Managing Partner/ Owner

Dave discovered craft beer while in college in Colorado and started homebrewing in the early 2000s. At about the same time Dave met Kevin at Albuquerque Academy where the two coached JV baseball together for many years. While he continues to teach math and science at Albuquerque Academy he is grateful to be a part of the Boxing Bear team.

Jay Knigge

Jay Knigge

Director of Business Operations/Owner

Jay discovered his love for craft beer back in college after homebrewing his first batch of beer. After years of experimenting and brewing in his garage he decided to pursue a career in the craft beer industry. After getting hired with Boxing Bear in 2014 he began overseeing and growing the distribution program and marketing Boxing Bear across the state of New Mexico. Jay continues to grow within the company and became part owner back in 2019.

Dylan Davis

Dylan Davis

Head Brewer/Owner

Also a home-grown New Mexican, Dylan was born and raised on the west side of Albuquerque. His love of craft beer began as a homebrewer, winning a gold medal with his very first brew. Dylan has learned a lot from head brewer, Justin Hamilton, after almost 7 years of brewing. Since completing the American Brewers Guild’s Intensive Brewing Science and Engineering course, he advanced to Lead Brewer. He takes pride in brewing beers to style, and is his own worst critic. He is such an important part of the brewing team that he became partner in early 2020.

Tony Miller

Tony Miller

Distribution Sales Manager

Tony has been working in the brewery industry for over 10 years. Tony started with Boxing Bear at the Tramway location and then took on the Distribution Sales Manager position where he began the distribution program covering Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and other outer territories. Now he works hand in hand with Admiral Beverage Company selling Boxing Bear products over the whole state of New Mexico. His favorite beer to drink is Uppercut IPA, that’s how he gets his vitamins. Tony’s other hobbies include Stargazing and Astronomy. Tony also has over 6 years of experience as a Chocolatier.

Astrid Galarza

Astrid Galarza

Events Coordinator

Astrid has been passionate about the craft beer industry since before she could legally drink. In the early 2000’s, she got her first job at Blue Corn Cafe & Brewery where she would become facsinated with the craft beer process and scene through her mentors. On her birthday in 2019, Astrid was brought on to the Boxing Bear Corrales Taproom team as a beertender, where she worked her way up to Taproom Manager, then eventually into her current role. Astrid’s favorite brew is the Uppercut IPA. When not planning events, you can find Astrid enjoying other local Albuquerque breweries and eateries, or at home cooking. Fun Fact about Astrid: she was named after a Mexican Soap Opera actress. Astrid’s says her favorite part about her job is the ability to bring together the community and creating a safe space for everyone to unwind, reset, and celebrate.

Nick Bridges

Nick Bridges

Social Media Manager

Nick started with Boxing Bear in 2022 at the Bridges on Tramway location (no, that’s not his name on the building!) as a beertender but always wanted to do more for the company. With a background in photography and a passion for creating, Nick began documenting all things Boxing Bear, eventually leading to his current role. His favorite Boxing Bear  brew is the Black & Blue Tart. When not at the Bear, you can find Nick and his dog, West, hiking through New Mexico.

Alan

Alan

Lead Brewer

Alan came to us from Houston, Tx back in 2017. That’s where he got into craft beer while working for Saint Arnold Brewing Company. His experience as a bartender, grill chef, doorman, arcade/pinball delivery driver, and amateur wrestler helped him climb the Boxing Bear ladder over the years. Starting in the Corrales kitchen he moved up to Distribution, then Salesman, and now Brewer. He still cooks. If you smell delicious smoke coming from the back of Firestone, it’s just Alan smoking meats for lunch.

Eddie

Eddie

Lead Brewer

Eddie joined the Boxing Bear team in 2021 as a beertender at the Corrales Taproom. Born and raised in Tucson, AZ, he’s no stranger to the desert and loves living here in New Mexico. Eddie found his passion for craft beer while in college at the University of Arizona. Starting off with a few home brews he eventually turned his hobby into a profession. Eddie previously worked as a cellar man and packaging operator at Wolfs Ridge Brewing Co. in Columbus, Ohio. His desire to brew incredible beer and the pride he has for all of the Boxing Bear beers has pushed him to continue learning and sharpening his skills as a brewer. Outside of work you’ll find Eddie hanging out with friends, fishing the Rio Grande, playing with his dog Wiggles (unofficial brewer pup) or visiting one of the other breweries in the ABQ. Eddie’s favorite beer is Lucille Pale Ale.

Cami

Cami

Brewer

Cami started with Boxing Bear in 2021 as a lead beertender eventually moving into the Corrales Taproom Manager position. She loved it, but that wasn’t her dream…After owning a successful food business for 7 years she knew she had to work in an industry that would keep her busy and both challenge her creativity and passion. Some would call it a demotion, but Cami was pumped when she transitioned her way into the brewery full time! From filling kegs and transferring beer to brewing batches she loves everything about working in the brewery and is often lovingly referred to as “the mashing queen”. In her free time Cami is bouncing from one of her 3 kid’s sporting events to the next. She also enjoys cooking, the outdoors and lifting weights (the heavier the better!).

Angie Martinez

Angie

General Taproom Manager

Angie started working at Boxing Bear in 2022 at our Bridges on Tramway taproom as a Beertender and instantly fell in love with the beer industry after being in it for quite some time, loving beer styles, the ins and outs of beer and how it’s made, taking peoples “likes and dislikes” on beer and finding the perfect pair for each individual. The majority of the beer industry and its ins and outs were introduced by Angie’s partner which made her love the community and meeting so many people through all networks. Outside of work Angie enjoys creating art, going to shows or exploring the wonderful world of beer.

Honey Bear

Honey Bear

Lead Office Pup

Honey got her start in the craft beer industry when she was just a puppy. She enjoys sleeping in her dad’s office and is sure to alert everyone of any incoming delivery drivers. She plays an important role in spreading joy and love to all the taproom and brewery staff. She occasionally enjoys a lick of beer when spilled on the floor but prefers peanut butter treats and gentle belly rubs.

Wiggles

Wiggles

Lead Brewery Pup

Wiggles is the official lead brewery pup at Boxing Bear. While Wiggles doesn’t brew, she always wants to say hi to everyone in the brewery and offices. She spends most of her time with Justin in their shared office making sure he’s never lonely and always protecting the office. Recently, Wiggles acquired a very nice couch for her office (although Justin thinks its his) and its quickly become her favorite place to nap and rest. Wiggles is a deaf pupper but everyone knows her signs and she receives lots of love on the daily. Wiggles doesn’t really like other dogs but loves all the humans that she works with. She really enjoys coming to work and getting all the booty pets and cuddles. Wiggles thinks should try out her beer. It’s called the “Wiggle Piggle Pale Ale.” You can ask anyone for a taste cuz she said so and thinks everyone should try it!
